The location is Singapore and there is a killer going around killing young women and cutting off their hand.

Ms. Moorthy an English teacher in a catholic school gets dragged into the murder mystery when her colleague is also murdered.

Ms. Moorthy enters into the murky world of the rich and powerful and tries to figure out if it is her colleague's ex or her colleague's present richie rich playboy who could have killed her.

Using her wits she goes about solving the mystery.

A good read.

Miss Marple is sent to a Caribbean island by her nephew. She is in the company of a multitude of people, of which one is a Major Palgrave who likes to tell stories about his experiences and heard about experiences to one and all. These experiences also involve some murders.

The Major is telling one of his stories to Miss Marple. He is about to show Ms. Marple a photograph of a murderer and just as he is about to show it, his face changes and he suddenly hides the photographs and starts talking about something else very loudly. A few of the guests pass them and greet them as they pass by.

The same night the Major dies and so begins a saga of dead bodies, one after the other. Miss Marple who thrives in a such a situation, exercises her mental faculties to solve the puzzle.

A good read for Agatha Christie fans.
