Living Death

The thought is the following article may appear morbid to some. Reader discretion is advised. Do not read if you are of a queasy disposition.

Sometimes one wonders if it is really bad to die in an accident, or be murdered or commit suicide. The death in all the above cases are almost instantaneous. There is no prolonged pain and first and second no long drawn fear.

Now consider the situation where one is suffering from any of the multifarious life threatening diseases like heart disease, diabetes, cancer or the many others. All of these are partially curable and the lifespan of the individual can be increased. What is not guaranteed is the time period of the incremental lifespan. Through this increased lifetime the individual spends hours worrying and thinking about the medicines to be consumed, the ill effects of forgetting to consume the pill, the side effects of consuming the pill and constantly thinking "Will my end come?". A small heartache makes the individual the near and dear ones drop everything and run to the doctor, a one time indulgence in sweets sends one into a tizzy, a small lump or a pain in a place which had not shown any signs of problem till now sends one scruyying for a checkup.

On short the individual dies practically every moment. (A very few will be able to avoid this situation). And at the end of all of this most of us are not a great inventor, discoverer or creator that we spend this lifetime creating something that is good for the world. We live our life ordinary with the additional burden of worrying about death.

One really needs to think, is it really necessary? Wouldn't it be better that this life ends abruptly with minimal pain? Or is it that I am afraid of pain and death?

Web Technologies Need a owner

This is the post that Joe Hewitt wrote to indicate that the web platform needs to have an owner for it to thrive. Mr. Joe seems to have forgotten that the internet and web was invented by the Defense and not by the industry with which he seems enamoured.

He feels that unless some company comes over and starts dictating how things to be done, probably the way Microsoft, IBM, Oracle and others do the net will not be a dominant player. Well all one has to do is to see how popular these companies are in the view of the developers (not the rest of the industry) to see how false this statement is.

Linux was born without a company and is going steady without a company like the ones mentioned above and so are many others. Yes there is a backing from these same companies, but they are doing it only because they are finding it difficult to compete with these open source, free software groups. So they have decided to join hands with these communities.

Mr. Joe talks about the innovation of browsers being killed. He needs to realize that it is being killed because of the rivalry across the same companies which he says should own the web. It seems to be a very immature statement.
