Al Arabian Novel Factory by Benyamin

Al Arabian Novel FactoryAl Arabian Novel Factory by Benyamin
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The incidents in the book speaks of an unnamed Arab nation ruled by a powerful monarch who wants to hang onto his power come what may.

The protagonist, an Indian immigrant journalist in Canada is asked to travel to a few Arab countries and gather information for an author who wishes to write a book based on the details gathered by a team of which the protagonist is one. He is joined by a person from England who is their leader, by an Indian who is in search of something new every few years and a warm body, and a Pakistani who seems to have secrets to hide.

They go about interviewing a few prominent citizens of the Arab nation. Each one seems to have some agenda of their own. The protagonist himself is there to meet his ex-flame for whom he still has a large place in this heart.

The book skilfully weaves in the situation (or at least as it seems to ones from outside) of some of the Arab nations into the events in the life of the above mentioned four people. It also brings in the apathy that many Indians have towards the problems of the local populace in these nations.

A good read.
