The Constant Gardener by John le Carré
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The story in the book revolves around the British Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. It starts with the murder of a young British lady who happens to be the wife of an Embassy staff. She has been working towards the upliftment of the Kenyan ladies in the slums of Nairobi. She and the Belgian doctor have been investigating a Pharmaceutical company which has been supplying a drug for TB cure. They have been using the Kenyans as Guinea pigs to test the product.
This murder spurs the personnel from British Embassy to hunt down the killers of his wife and the Belgian doctor. In the meantime the rest of the world including Her Majesty's government, hand in glove, with the big Pharmaceutical companies are trying to suppress the truth in an effort to boost the profits.
The book traces the travails of the bereaved embassy personnel as he goes around the world tracking the perpetrators of the crime. He ends up in Kenya where he finds them out only to be killed by the same people while all goes on well with the rest of the world.
