A nice and not a boring autobiography by the author. The first book Boy makes one wonder how we tolerated the trashing of children at schools at the hands of the teachers and at the hand of the seniors if they happened to be in a boarding school.
While one cannot say that author struggled through the childhood or had a bad childhood, but the author definitely had his share of struggles like losing father as a child being trashed by the headmaster for doing mischief in school like putting a rat in the jar of sweets being sold by the local grubby, unfriendly sweet vendor. The book ends with the author leaving school to join Shell where he hopes to travel the world and to exotic places like Africa, India etc.
The second book starts from where the first left off and the author has the temerity to ask for a posting in East Africa and not in some cushy place. The book starts with his adventures with the African wildlife primarily involving snakes. Then at the start of the world war I
