Another very nice movie from Rajkummar Rao. Rao is in an honest Government servant working along with this dishonest colleagues. He is all gungho about doing his duty to the nation. He is in the reserve for election duty.
When one person drops out from going to an election booth in Maoist infected area with 76 voters, Rao volunteers to go.
He is dropped near the election booth in an helicopter. He is accompanied by two other assistants. He is provided security by an army (or BSF?) personnel who has seen action all over India and sees himself as a practical person.
When Rao wakes up in the morning at 4:00 AM to go to the election booth the security head is humoured. He asks Rao not to worry about reporting zero voting. He says he will ensure that at least some votes will come in. He asks Rao to relax and says he will send his boys to get the votes. Rao keeps repeating that "he is the election officer and his words will be the command today".
He pushes the security person to take him, his assistants who have come with hims and a lady assistant from the same locality.
He manages to setup a booth and keeps waiting for people to turn up. None turn up. But when the security head gets a message saying that foreign media is coming to check out the situation, he sends out his men to round up the villagers and brings them to vote.
The villagers are clueless on how to use the voting machine and have no idea of the leaders standing for the election. Rao tries to explain the process of voting to no avail. The security personnel takes over and tells them to go an play with the voting machine.
Rao remains an idealist to the last moment and does what he considers is his duty.
Definitely worth watching for both the theme and the performance of all the key actors.
