My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Based during an era when abortion was considered a sin and doctors performing abortion, even for genuine reasons, were shunned and blackmarked the book starts with an abortion going wrong and the young girl, the daughter of a prominent doctor in Boston dies.
All fingers point at another doctor who is known to be a self-confessed abortionist Dr. Lee. Dr. John Berry who is his a close friend of Dr. Lee makes it his mission to prove Dr. Lee innocent. In the process he does not mind ruffling a few feathers and stepping on others toes and ends up antagonizing too many powerful people for him, his family and Dr. Lee's family to feel safe.
He gets multiple evidences and almost convinces everyone that the abortion was done by the girl's uncle who is also a prominent doctor in the same hospital as the others. His conscious does not permit him to accept this conclusion, he digs deeper till he gets to the bottom of the case.
A good read.
