Paan Singh Tomar. It is based on a real-life story. Paan Singh Tomar is from the dacoit ridden Chambal valley. He joins the army and defents prefers to term the dacoits as rebels. He has no qualms in claiming that his father and his father's father all have been rebels. The senior office takes him for further questioning on hearing this.
The army food is unable to satisfy his huge appetite. His fellow officer advices him to join sports where food is available in plenty. He takes up to running the 5 KM an ends up beating the coach's brother-in-law. The coach pleads with him and makes him take up the steeplechase race instead. He excels in it and goes on to win many medals and ends up breaking many records.
When he returns home he finds that his cousin has duped his family and has taken away all the lands in their name. He does not listen to reason. The local police refuse to help them despite his army credentials and his showing his medals. He reaches out to the collector in that area through his army contacts, but he does not help either. His house is burnt down and his old mother is knocked down by his cousin.
He is forced to become a "rebel" and he forms his own gang. He goes on to settle score with his cousin and become as wanted man. He also gets even with the police office who refused to help him, but lets him go when the officer tells him that he has two small children. This proves costly for him in the long run.
A finely made movie. A wonderful performance by Irrfan Khan.
