First why did so many Indians leave India and come to Barbados to make a living.
1. To have a better life.
2. To make some money.
3. For some to make a career.
With this background look at what the people gained or lost.
Barbados is a beautiful place to go to for a vacation if you have enough money. Everything costs double of what it costs in the US which is just two hours by flight. What would make programmers and developers, who can potentially get job in the US stay in Barbados? The answer is nothing. Nobody seems to have asked this question before opening the development at Barbados.
The company further aggravated the situation by providing accomodation and transport to the employees. This led to the employees living in a distributed ghetto, with most not mingling with the local population. The impression that a Bajan would have got is that these people are well paid and lead a luxurious life. The stinginess of the Indians also stood out. Instead of shopping in the big shops, the employees trooped to the roadside open markets, early Saturday morning in the company provided vehicle, and bought out all the vegetables (quite a few being vegetarians). This enraged the local population.
In short there was no reason for the developers to continue in Barbados for a long time, despite its beautiful beaches, its resorts and its beauty.
