City of Djinss: A Year in Delhi by William Darymple

City of Djinns: A Year in DelhiCity of Djinns: A Year in Delhi by William Dalrymple

The author spends a year with his wife living in Delhi. During the stay he tries to cover the history of the various ancient forts and areas in Old Delhi.

The author skillfully mixes his experience of different localities and landmarks he visits with history of the place. There are interesting nuggets of facts in each locality.

Wonder no Indian has ever attempted to do something like this. Looks like the research done by the author for this books seems to have triggered the other books like "White Mughals (2002)", "Begums, Thugs & White Mughals: The Journals of Fanny Parkes (2002)", The Last Mughal, The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi 1857 (2006)".

A lucid writer who makes history interesting.
