My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The book speaks about two types of thinking. The Slow and the Fast. It is said that there are two Systems within us which make us think in this two different ways.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The Fast System makes us react. This is useful under certain circumstances while under other it is detrimental to us. Under dangerous critical situations it is very helpful as it makes us react to defend to save ourselves. Under other circumstances it can spoil our relationships with others and bring undue conflict and thereby strife to our life. The positive side of this is intuition based on past experience and the negative side is reaction based on past experience. They are two sides of the same coin.
The Slow system makes us think before we respond. In dangerous critical situations where a quick action is required this system is practically useless. In most other situations this is helpful. The positive side is that it allows one to mull over the situation, weigh the pros can cons before arriving at the response. The negative side is that it can lead one to paralysis by analysis.
This Fast System dominates in most humans.
