Is the BJP seeing its downfall?
Every Government seems to think that by throwing sops at the public it can win the elections. Bharathmala is an infrastructure sop to attract the upwardly mobile urban middle class mass. It will not echo well with the rural masses, which still form a bulk of the vote bank. So one wonders what made the Government make this announcement.
Without even looking at the plan it is possible to predict that this project will have a very negative impact on the environment and environment has been one aspect that this Government has completely ignored in the name of progress. Even if it manages to garner a few votes with this project it is going to come at a huge cost for the future generation, with green belts being depleted to realize the grand vision or Mr. Nitin Gadkari.
It does not augur well either for the ruling party nor for the country as a whole.
Looks like we are going to see history repeat itself during the 2019 elections, repeat of "India Shining".
