Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being RemarkablePurple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable by Seth Godin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The fundamental message in the book is that do something extraordinary to meet with assured success. Just making marginal improvisations is not sufficient.

The author argues that many of the success the last century or so can be attributed to marketing and advertisement, specifically advertisement in Television. He argues that the era of making a product successful using marketing and advertisements is gone. To succeed in any business what is required is to identify a niche set of users and address their requirements. Let these early adopters talk to others and let the information spread by the word of mouth or in today's world through the social media. This is what will fetch success, not marketing and advertisement.

The author gives various examples like Starbucks, JetBlue, Linux, Google and so many others.

And to achieve this one needs to be bold and take ones chances. Most of us end up toeing the management's line and do not use our creativity to do something different, or better. It is important to learn to fail and accept failure.

A good read for innovators.
